A 13-year-old boy has been arrested by the Denver Police Department for the fatal shooting of a 60-year-old man on a bus in Denver. The incident, which occurred on January 27, came to light as the police announced on Friday, withholding the name of the young suspect due to his minor status.
According to the Denver Police Department’s news release, the shooting transpired around “6:40 p.m. near the intersection of South Federal Boulevard and West Mississippi Avenue.” The preliminary investigation suggests that a verbal altercation arose between the suspect and the victim concerning the positioning of the victim’s leg, which was allegedly blocking the aisle on the bus. Subsequently, the young suspect reportedly shot the victim.
Upon responding to the incident, the police discovered the 60-year-old man on the bus with a gunshot wound. Despite prompt medical attention, the victim succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a hospital.
During the altercation, another individual sustained a minor injury and received on-site medical treatment, as per the police statement.
The Denver Police Department, through an exhaustive investigation, identified the shooter as a 13-year-old male, who was taken into custody late Thursday afternoon. While currently held for investigation of first-degree murder, the final charges against the juvenile will be determined by the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
