Salt Lake City, UT – January 4, 2023
In a harrowing incident at “Salt Lake City International Airport,” a “30-year-old man,” identified as Kyler Efinger, lost his life after crawling into the engine of a Delta Air Lines jet on Monday night. Efinger, a ticketed passenger bound for Denver, breached an emergency exit, sprinted to an active runway undergoing deicing operations, and entered the rotating aircraft engine. The Delta flight to San Francisco had to return to the gate, resulting in its cancellation, with 95 passengers rerouted.
The motives behind Efinger’s actions remain unclear, with authorities investigating the incident. Delta Air Lines expressed its commitment to cooperating fully with ongoing investigations, emphasizing the paramount importance of passenger and staff safety. Despite the tragic event, overall airport operations remained unaffected, according to officials.
Salt Lake City officers, working with the medical examiner’s office, will determine Efinger’s cause and manner of death, which may include a toxicology report. “The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)” are actively involved in the investigation. The incident underscores the need for heightened security measures and vigilance at airports, as authorities continue to probe this shocking and unprecedented event.
