Fans of Apple TV+’s hit series “The Morning Show” were taken aback when it was confirmed that Desean Terry, known for his role as former anchor Daniel Henderson in the show’s first two seasons, would not be returning for Season 3. Terry’s contract was not renewed for the latest installment of the show, as confirmed by Variety.

On Thursday, Desean Terry addressed his absence in an Instagram video after numerous inquiries regarding his whereabouts. Although he didn’t explicitly mention “The Morning Show,” Variety has confirmed that this is indeed what he was referring to.

“I did want to come on here and confirm for you all that no, you will not be seeing that character this season. I’m disappointed about it as well, but I’m really grateful that there are folks who reached out who felt seen by that role and narrative,” he expressed in the video, alluding to his portrayal of a Black, gay anchor. “I think in this moment of uncertainty in our union, that as we fight for what we deserve in terms of pay equity, the leaders of our union keep diversity and inclusion top of mind so that we can see more characters and narratives like that one.”

In the caption accompanying his video, he further emphasized the importance of diverse and complex characters on screen, expressing his sadness over their disappearance and reassuring fans that more is yet to come in his creative journey.

Terry’s representatives have refrained from commenting on the situation, citing his unavailability due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Apple TV+ has not immediately responded to Variety’s request for comment.

Season 3 of “The Morning Show” has introduced new cast members, Jon Hamm and Nicole Beharie, while delving into discussions about race in the workplace. Variety’s TV critic Alison Herman highlighted that the show remains flawed but also acknowledged that Terry’s absence has shifted the focus of addressing racial discrimination to other members of the ensemble. This alteration in the storyline is seen as an anticlimax, deviating from the intended emphasis on marginalized workers.

As fans eagerly await the unfolding of Season 3, the absence of Desean Terry from the cast has undoubtedly left a void that many viewers are lamenting.
