In a surprise reveal today, Disney and Pixar premiered the much-anticipated trailer and poster for the upcoming sensation of Summer 2024: ‘Inside Out 2’. This sequel promises to plunge audiences back into the intriguing world inside Riley’s mind with an exciting addition – the introduction of a new Emotion: Anxiety.
Director Kelsey Mann shared insights into this intriguing character, voiced by Maya Hawke. According to Mann, Anxiety won’t simply sit in the background; she’s here to shake things up within the headquarters of Riley’s mind. “Anxiety may be a newcomer, but she’s not one to take a passive role,” Mann remarked. “It’s a fascinating addition when you consider the complexity of what happens within all our minds.”
‘Inside Out 2’ revisits the world of Riley, now a newly minted teenager, right when the headquarters of her mind faces an unexpected twist: the arrival of new Emotions! The well-established team of Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust find themselves in uncharted territory as they confront the arrival of Anxiety. And it seems she’s not arriving alone.
Joining the stellar cast are familiar voices: Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Amy Poehler as Joy, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale stepping in as Fear, and Liza Lapira taking over the role of Disgust. Directed by Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen, ‘Inside Out 2’ is slated for an exclusive theatrical release in Summer 2024.
The original ‘Inside Out,’ released in 2015, centered on Riley, a young girl navigating the tumultuous waters of growing up, alongside the five emotions steering her mind. The critical and commercial success of the first film propelled it to an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
However, the sequel introduces a fascinating twist by weaving Anxiety into the narrative, bringing a new layer of depth and relatability to audiences.
After a successful introduction at Disney’s D23 Expo in 2022, the film’s much-anticipated release is set for June 14, 2024, nearly nine years after the original movie enchanted audiences.
The release of ‘Inside Out 2’ holds the potential to rekindle the cherished realm of emotions, delving into the intricacies of the human mind in a manner that is both enlightening and enjoyable. With the addition of Anxiety, Pixar seems set to captivate audiences once more, delving into the complexities of emotions in a manner that’s bound to resonate and charm viewers of all ages.
