A 31-year-old man, Rohit Sharma, is now facing charges related to a collision that occurred in the west end of the city last month, resulting in the tragic death of a 53-year-old pedestrian. The incident transpired around 10:30 a.m. on November 13 at the intersection of “Eglinton Avenue West and Dufferin Road.”

According to police reports, a dump truck was traveling “westbound on Eglinton Avenue West,” approaching Dufferin Street, when the driver attempted a left turn. At that precise moment, a 53-year-old man was crossing the south side of the intersection and was struck by the dump truck.

Despite immediate transportation to the hospital, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries. The loss prompted a thorough investigation, leading to charges against the driver involved in the incident. The accused, identified as Rohit Sharma, was charged earlier this week with dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death. He is slated to make a court appearance next month.

In a news release issued on Thursday, the police urged anyone possessing security or dash camera footage of the area during the collision to come forward and assist investigators in their efforts to piece together the events surrounding the tragedy.

This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of road safety and the devastating consequences that can arise from lapses in attention or judgment. As legal proceedings unfold, the community awaits answers and hopes for justice for the victim and their grieving loved ones.
