Personal Life

Landry Shamet’s journey isn’t just about his basketball career; it’s also a story of personal growth and connection. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Shamet’s early life was shaped by the care and dedication of his mother, Melanie Shamet.

Interestingly, Landry didn’t learn about his father, Ron Davis, who was a professional basketball player, until he was a teenager. Their reunion in 2021 marked a significant moment in his life, and Landry shared this touching experience during the Phoenix Suns’ 2022 Media Day.

Shamet revealed, “I connected with my father for the first time last year, last fall. And with that stepped in a big brother role with three younger siblings. Hadn’t met any of them. They didn’t know about me. I’ve known about them since I was like 16.”

Being the only childof a single mother, Landry experienced a profound transformation in his life with this newly discovered family bond. It was an experience that deeply impacted him, and he admitted, “The only child of a single mom my whole life, it’s a life changer. Stepping into that, putting myself in that position, I think I underestimated all that would come with it. The things that would go on internally with me. So truthfully, a lot of the time [in 2021], my mind stepping into games, it wasn’t all on basketball. I feel like I’m in a spot now where it can be because this whole summer, I was with family all summer.”

With this newfound balance in his life, Landry Shamet is poised to bring his best to the Wizards and embrace this exciting chapter on and off the court.

The Washington Wizards are thrilled to welcome Landry Shamet to the DC Family, and fans can follow his journey and experiences on Instagram as he contributes his skills and passion to the team.
