Seven Puppies Rescued in Arkansas Cemetery

In a distressing incident, a sealed box containing seven malnourished puppies was discovered in a Marked Tree, Arkansas cemetery, sparking outrage and prompting local authorities to offer a reward for information on the perpetrator.

Marked Tree Animal Rescue, a non-profit organization committed to animal welfare, reported that the puppies, each weighing between 2 to 3 pounds, were found inside a cardboard box sealed with duct tape. The animals were severely malnourished and infested with roundworms. Despite their dire condition, all seven puppies are currently receiving emergency care and are expected to survive.

Rhonda Davis, an attorney and volunteer at the rescue, expressed her dismay at the situation, emphasizing the vulnerability of the animals. “What if somebody hadn’t seen that area? I mean, there’s so many things that just ran through my mind,” she said. “It’s just absolutely heartbreaking.”

The puppies were discovered by four women from a local church group, who promptly brought them to the attention of Marked Tree Animal Rescue. Davis described the cramped conditions the puppies endured, suspecting that they belonged to a terrier breed. The rescue had encountered a similar situation last spring, raising concerns about a potential repeat offender in the community.

The rescue is actively seeking information leading to the identification of the person responsible for this act of cruelty. A reward is being offered for any leads that could result in charges related to the illegal dumping of animals. Local authorities, including the police department and animal control, are collaborating with the rescue to investigate the incident.

Despite public interest in adopting the puppies, they are currently considered evidence in the ongoing investigation. Marked Tree Animal Rescue is committed to caring for the puppies until they are ready for adoption, ensuring they find loving homes where they can leave behind the trauma of their past.
