Plano, Texas – November 23, 2023
In a devastating incident on Tuesday night, a pilot lost his life after his small plane crashed and erupted in flames in the parking lot of a shopping center in Plano, Texas. Authorities rushed to the scene near Mama’s Daughters’ Diner, responding to a call on November 22.
The aircraft involved in the crash was identified as a single-engine Mooney M20, and according to the Plano Police Department, only the pilot was on board at the time of the tragic incident, as reported by the Dallas Morning News. Plano Fire-Rescue, which arrived promptly at the scene, confirmed that the plane did not collide with any structures. However, the resulting fire did involve an unoccupied parked vehicle.
During a press conference, Plano Fire-Rescue spokesman Daniel Daly provided insights into the aftermath, stating, “The plane did not actually land on or collide with anything. However, the fire resulting from the crash did involve an unoccupied parked vehicle.”
Witnesses in the vicinity reported hearing a loud crash and rushed outside to witness the harrowing scene. Kiu Nguyen, who was at a nearby nail salon, recounted the terrifying experience, saying, “When I came out there was a lot of smoke, and later I heard a noise again. It was so scary. Everybody came and saw a lot of smoke.”
Kevin Holigan, another witness, described the intensity of the flames, making it difficult to discern the source of the fire. The crash occurred less than half a mile from Air Park-Dallas Airport, although it remains unclear if that was the pilot’s intended destination.
Local authorities have handed over the investigation to the “the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).” As the community grapples with the tragedy, the details surrounding the crash are anticipated to emerge as the NTSB and FAA conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
