Naples, FL – February 11, 2024
On Friday, a Bombardier Challenger 600 jet crashed on I-75 in Naples, claiming the lives of the pilot, Edward Daniel Murphy, and second in command, Ian Frederick Hofmann. Miraculously, the crew member and two passengers survived the crash and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The plane, en route from Ohio State University Airport to Naples Municipal Airport, encountered engine failure, forcing the pilot to attempt an emergency landing on the highway.
The ill-fated landing resulted in the plane colliding with a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a Nissan Armada SUV on I-75. While the truck’s driver sustained minor injuries, the SUV’s driver emerged unharmed, along with its passengers.
As the investigation unfolds, the southbound lanes of I-75 remain closed, with the National Transportation Safety Board leading the inquiry and the Florida Highway Patrol urging drivers to avoid the affected area.
